The 13th CTSC awards night took place at a sold out Roundhill WMRC on Monday night, it was a another sell out for the second year running. We reviewed the history making season, the Tigers finishing League Leaders for the first time in 91 years.

Highlights of the season, winning the League Leaders Shield at home against Wakefield, a magical night. So many others, the style of rugby in attack has been breathtaking, some brilliant tries, beating Leeds 4 times in a season, qualifying for the super 8s home semi final in the third super 8s game. The whole squad takes the credit, the defense has shown a massive improvement, what a season and it's not finished yet.

Everyone wished CEO Steve Gill a happy birthday and he gave his review of the season. Steve thanked everyone at the club, the players, coaching staff, directors and supporters for a great season. He praised the squad on the professional way all of them have performed this season, he congratulated the U19s on a great season, finishing second and losing in the Grand Final. The club is doing well and we just need to finish the job.

Pete Riding was next on stage and he gave a review of the Under 19s season, A great season finishing second in the league and just missing out in the final to a very good Wigan team. Many of the players still qualify to play next season, so Pete was looking forward to another good 2018.The first award of the night went to the Under 19s player of the year, sponsored by Faye's Sandwich bar, Faye Noon presented the award to Jacques O'Neill. Jacques has had an eventful season but always gave 100% and improved as a player throughout the year.

Next up on stage was club captain Michael Shenton, he was asked about what it meant wining the League leaders shield, a dream come true the script could not have been better he said. Michael said that he knew at the training camp in January that the squad had a special feel and bond. About the forthcoming semi final, he said the squad was confident and they all knew the standard that had to be reached to go all the way.

The next award was the CTSC Committee player of the year, sponsored by the Black Swan, Normanton, the award was presented by CTSC Committee member Dave Bowman to the winner Zac Hardaker. After joining us on a seasons loan, Zac quickly settled into the Tiger style of play, scoring some sensation tries, especially the one at Headingley. His defensive work has also been a major factor in the Tigers historic season and in our opinion Zac is the best full back in Super League. Now a firm Tigers fan favorite Zac can be very proud of a fantastic 2017 season.

Daryl Powell was next up and he gave his review of the season, thanking the players for all their efforts in a historic season. Daryl referred back to last seasons Super 8s were we only lost once, that's when it all started, with the new additions it was carried on into the training camp and the new season. A lot of hard work had gone into producing the style of attacking play, defense had also improved, a major goal back in January. Daryl was very happy having a home semi final and wanted the squad to be the best Castleford team ever, we are very well placed to do that he said.

This year the CTSC Committee felt we should award 2 special achievement awards, so the first one was presented by Holly Bennett to the retiring Andy Lynch. We wanted to recognize Andy's long and distinguished career, starting at the Tigers in 1999, playing for Bradford, Hull FC and finishing at the Tigers. A lot of great memories including this years League Leaders Shield.
